COUNTDOWN TO WORLD YOUTH DAY 2008
Avviso was on hand when the symbols of the world’s largest youth event – the World Youth Day Cross and Icon of Our Lady – touched down in Australia on July 1 ahead of a day of welcome celebrations in Sydney.
Officially welcomed from New Zealand by Prime Minister John Howard, NSW Premier Morris Iemma, and hundreds of Australian youth, clergy and laity, the arrival of the Cross and Icon heralds the countdown to World Youth Day in Australia next July.
Around 500,000 people are expected to take part when Sydney hosts the XXIII World Youth Day from 15-20 July 2008.
A full itinerary of the Journey of the Cross and Icon can be found at www.wyd2008.org.
